Juki's new LWU-3015 ultrasonic welding machine uses a specialised horn to fuse two bits of material together. The horn vibrates and ultrasonic spead causing heat to be created at the points of contact with the material and results in polymerization. The shape of the horn can also be as such that the residual material that is not needed is cut away as it passes beside the horn.
