When rivals Oldham County folded in 1899, Pine Villa and moved to Boundary Park and changed their name to Oldham Athletic. The Latics joined the football league in 1907 and 1911 Oldham were promoted to the First Divison and 2014-15 Oldham finished in highest ever league position 2nd.in 1923 they were relegated and it would be many years in the lower leagues but in 1982 Jor Royle took them over and built a good honest hard working team and in 1990 Oldham Athletic reach the Semi final for the 2nd time in club history playing their arch-rivals Manchester United in one of the most epic Manchester Derby losing the replay at Maine Road and they finished Runner-up in League cup losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest and 1991 they won Second Divison title to return to the top flight for the first time in 68 years.
